What do you get when it's someone's birthday, there are 10 inches of ice and snow on the ground, and it's a family tradition to go out to eat to the birthday person's choice restaurant ON their birthday? You get five and a half hours of family FUN.
We had to be crazy to even attempt to drive 30 miles from Sand Springs to Texas Roadhouse in honor of my sister's big celebration of turning 2-8, but we are one dedicated family. So we all (6 of us) piled in my parents' car and slowly but surely sled our way into the parking lot and had a wonderful meal.
After dinner, it was of course dark outside, which means the 10 inches of snow and ice were refreezing on the roads, and they became "slick as glass." I know this because my dad repeated that phrase 572 times on our drive home. And if it weren't for the idiots that thought they were invincible driving 50 mph on the ice-covered roads, our evening might have been a little more uneventful. We watched at least 4 cars spin in circles on the highway right before our eyes and countless cars on the side of the road stuck. However, it wasn't until we were 500 feet from our exit off of I-44 to Sand Springs that the evening went from long to longer. We came to a dead stand still. About 3/4 of mile ahead of us, a semi and two cars had collided (which we later found out from the trucker who had a CB in front of us). After 15 minutes we realized we were going to be sitting there a while, so Dad put the car in Park.
It's not everyday that you can get out and stand in the middle of the highway, but we did. And we documented it. Oh yes-what better way to make an hour and half wait on the highway more fun than to take pictures of it?
Happy Birthday Sista! I know this was one of the more memorable ones!! :)
