A little over a week ago, I went into my kitchen/dining room and flipped on the light switch...only the light in the dining room didn't come on. We'd been having some trouble with the switch sticking and you'd have to basically beat the wall in to get the light to come on. It finally kicked the curb and croaked. So for about a week Mike and I ate in the dark, sat at the computer in dark, etc etc etc. Mike and I must have gotten fed up with it on the same day b/c I made some remark about how annoying it was to not have the light on just as he was pulling a new switch out of a Home Depot sack.
So, he unscrews the plate and goes into the garage to mess with the breakers. He comes back in and works on the wiring. He digs out his tester to see if the wires are hot again, and sure enough they are...but no light. So we come to the conclusion that he's going to have to crawl in the attic and mess with the wiring in the ceiling fan. He unscrews the center light bulb and pulls the switch on the fan--the fan starts spinning. Shortly after that he pulls the switch on the fan for the light. Viola! There was light.
Immediately we started cracking up laughing. We'd sat in the dark for about a week and all we had to do was pull the string on the ceiling fan. :) Funny thing is, neither one of us remembers turning the light off from the string. We came to the conclusion that Simon and my niece were both too short to pull the string and just decided to leave it at that and laugh about the rest. :)
Ahh, the laughter was refreshing.
